Water Main Break
September 27, 2017
Water service is back on, thanks to our hard-working crew! You may experience discoloration in the water after this main break. This is because the required chlorine that we use to disinfect the water, is an oxidizer. The sequestering agent we use to treat the naturally occurring iron in the water, causes some of the iron to adhere to the inside of the PVC pipe. Once there is a change in velocity or volume, typically during peak usage days or a main break, the iron deposits will break loose causing the discoloration.
You can find out more information by visiting our website and reading the document “Understanding Iron in Groundwater.” And as always you can call us with any questions. 830-779-2837.
